Gabe McDougal
Safety Advisor
Gabe McDougal
Safety Advisor
Gabe brings a diverse background to the role of Safety Advisor at S2SA. Initially, he completed a bachelor’s of kinesiology at The University of Winnipeg and completed his CSEP Certified Exercise Physiologist designation. As a kinesiologist, Gabe worked with injured workers in a rehab and reconditioning context, conducted pre-employment fitness evaluations, and delivered health and wellness presentations to various workplaces around Manitoba. This sparked an interest in workplace health and safety, leading him to enroll in the Occupational Health and Safety program at Herzing College in 2021. Upon completing his diploma, Gabe formally joined the safety field as a health and safety manager in a manufacturing setting and later within the transportation industry.
Having experienced workplace injuries himself, Gabe understands firsthand the importance of safety training and building a functional safety system that works for its people. He firmly believes in building a safety culture where workers are educated and work safely because they want to, not just because they have to. During his time as a health and safety manager, Gabe co-chaired safety committees and lead his workplace through the successful completion of their SafeWork certification and first maintenance audit cycle. An experience he looks forward to sharing with S2SA members as he guides them through that very same certification process.
In addition to his career as a Safety Advisor, Gabe also actively serves within the Canadian Army Reserves as an infantry soldier. In his free time, he likes to travel, and train mixed martial arts. Competing and coaching regularly at local tournaments.
