Shelly Taylor

Shelly Taylor holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lakehead University, a Social Service Worker Diploma from Confederation College, and a Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from Red River College. She also possesses an NSCO designation from the Construction Association of Manitoba and is currently pursuing a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety at the University of New Brunswick.

Following her university education, Shelly secured a position at a private treatment facility, situated at the base of the Appalachian Mountains in the southern United States, where she worked at an outdoor boarding school for adolescents. In this role, she supported young individuals up to the age of 21 in reflecting on their past decisions, developing healthier coping strategies, enhancing communication skills, and prioritizing group needs over individual desires, thereby ensuring that individual needs were also addressed.

After returning to Canada and advancing her education, Shelly relocated from Ontario to Manitoba, where she worked in level five group homes and served as a Community Corrections Worker for Manitoba Justice. Following her transition into motherhood, she took on the role of Life Skills Counsellor at Southeast Collegiate. With nearly a decade of experience working with traumatized youth, she decided to redirect her career towards safety. While studying at Red River College, she became actively involved with the Steps for Life Committee for the Winnipeg Chapter, gaining insights into the experiences of individuals engaged with Threads for Life. Shelly advocates for the critical need for industry-specific training to ensure that companies prioritize the safe return of their employees at the end of each workday, equipping workers with the necessary knowledge to perform their tasks safely. She has served as a safety coordinator in the transportation and construction industries since 2018.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Shelly enjoys crafting with her daughter and relaxing in the sun with her chihuahua. She is always eager for a road trip, particularly to new destinations.
